Walker Audio Reference
High Definition links
First, a little common sense as
penned by Srajean Ebaen
..." Should you spend $650 on two tiny minimalist gizmozoids if your
speakers are worth $1,500? Should you go HDL if your electronics are still
parked on a ringy metal contraption with glass shelves? If you haven't yet
addressed an 8dB room-induced peak at 70Hz? The list of things you should
probably do before considering HDLs is formidable. It's all about priorities.
First get the biggest obstacles -- source resolution; speaker/seat alignment
with regards to matched path lengths and room modes; amplifier/speaker matching;
room acoustics; resonance control; power distribution; cable voicing -- handled
so that the resolving power of your system is sufficiently keen to make more
advanced tweaks obvious and worthwhile. Sufficiently dialed rigs become transparent
to little changes.
This includes the occasionally
profound effects which such apparently tiny changes may cause in excess of
ambitious expectations. Reviewer raves over tweaks must always be tempered
by context. Don't believe that such devices could substitute for fundamental
steps that haven't been attended yet. First things first. Those are the basics.
As such, the Reference HDLs certainly aren't basic. They are advanced après
tweaks for after when everything else is in place. End of small print...."

What they do
High Definition Links prevent RFI and very high frequency electronic noises
(which are emitted from all electronics) from being transmitted to your speakers.
They eliminate the unwanted noise from the signal path, while allowing the pure
music signal to pass through unaffected.
The music will become more natural
sounding. The electronic glare will disappear. The sound stage will open up
to become better focused, more transparent. Harmonics will be cleaner, clearer
and the dynamics will be faster and sharper, without harshness.
All parts in the High Definition
Links are designed and built to proprietary specifications for Walker Audio.
The wiring and the spade connectors are ultra pure silver.
INSTALLATION
Installation is very simple. High Definition Links install in parallel with
your speaker cables at your speakers and are placed between the speaker cables
and the binding post nut. (Not between the speaker cable and the speaker.)
It is important to note the polarity:
plus to plus, minus to minus. Allow two to three days for the High Definition
Links to break in properly.
Single-Wired Speakers:
- Loosen the binding post on the speaker cables.
- Install High Definition Links
between the nut and the speaker cable... Not between the speaker cable and
the speaker!
- Note the polarity: Plus to plus;
minus to minus.
- Tighten the nut.
Biwired Speakers - Using one set of speaker cables with jumpers:
Connect the speaker cables to the woofer binding post and install the jumper
behind the speaker cable and to the tweeter/midrange.
Install the High Definition Links
behind the jumper at the tweeter. If the speaker uses long external jumpers
to the tweeter, for example the Wilson speakers with puppy tail, install the
links behind the jumper at the tweeter.
Biwired and Tri-wired Speakers:
One set of High Definition Links is required for each set of speaker cables.
Speakers With External Crossovers:
Install the High Definition Links at the speaker, if possible, and behind
the speaker cables.
That's it. Allow three to four days for the High Definition Links to break
in properly.
