Volent Paragon VL-2
Sixmoons Reviews the Volent VL-2
One of the finest book shelf loudspeakers you can find on earth, combining with Volent Patented Twin-Ribbon technology with specially designed 7” titanium cone woofer. Its patented dual Neodymium magnetic system, ‘Air System’ is designed for producing the finest detail you can imagine.
LCY 3.8" Twin-Ribbon Tweeter
The Paragon VL-2 Volent's Twin Ribbon Tweeter (made by it's sister company, LCY) is unique in that is sports a wide dispersion profile. There is no "head in a vice" sweet spot associated with the twin ribbon design. Volent's construction of its twin ribbon tweeter uses a 0.0006mm aluminum foil with two outer and two inner pole pieces. Because their pole pieces are not at the front or back of the ribbons, they don't suffer the usual excursion limitations of ribbons. You get the speed and articulation of the ribbon with the wide dispersion and high output of a dome, with far more speed and far less distortion. This also negates the need for extreme toe-in. In fact, we recommend very little, if any, toe-in. With unique 3.8cm Ribbon tweeters, the Paragon VL-2 has a frequency response up to up to 50,000Hz.
7" Graphite/Titanium sandwiched cone woofer
The Paragon VL-2 is also equipped with the "Magico" Graphite/Titanium sandwich based 7" woofer (this is the same woofer used on the original Magico Mini). The inner cone is made of Syntactic Polymer Hardfoam, outer layer is Graphite with Titanium ionized and sprayed on its surface. The merits of using both Graphite with its elasticity and Titanium's stiffness are combined for a super stiff, low mass driver. Pair this with a large surround and supporting motor, and you have a driver capable of 30hz in the VL-2 enclosure.
With Volent's patented " Air " system, and a specially designed Copper Faraday Ring, the counter-electomoive force is therefore minimized, the result is the bass is fast, deep, and articulate.
Build Quality - in spades
Without question, the Paragon VL-2 is made with "the good stuff". You will find nothing in it's construction, inside or out, that will give away it's Chinese construction. No corners are cut. The tapered, boat-hull shaped enclosure is solid, beautifully (Italian) veneered and piano finished. The top and bottoms sport a high gloss, piano black cap. Internal cross braces minimize cabinet resonance to improve bass performance. The front baffle driver recesses are fit perfectly, and the baffle itself is covered in a pebbled faux leather.
The VL-2 crossover is mounted perpendicular to the drivers on a thick aluminum plate, to minimize capacitor microphonics. Needless to say, all network components are specially selected and of the highest quality. Here is where most other loudspeakers cut corners. Knowing that the typical consumer will not "look under the hood", they skimp on wiring and crossover parts. Limiting the potential of the speaker itself.
