High-End, Solid State, balanced, dual-mono, stereo amplifier, bridgeable in mono at 450W Modwright needs no introduction. They are well established as an innovator that offers extremely well crafted, excellent sounding products at a terrific price. They have raised the value bar higher with the KWA 150 solid state stereo/mono amplifier. From the sexy all aluminum machined chassis, to the tube like midrange, and well controlled, dynamic bass the KWA 150 is the amp to beat on many levels.
Tonally, the amp is voiced to give the beauty of tubes with the power, control and low maintenance of SS. The output devices feature a unique auto-thermal bias circuit and have incredible bandwidth. As MWI customers would expect, it uses top quality components throughout and is designed with 'Elegance.Simplicity.Truth' in mind.
The speed and attack of the best solid state amps (due to the high slew rate), coupled with warmth, liquidity and refined extension. Able to drive low impedence loads and still maintain its composure. The only downside I can think of is its only rated at 150 watts. It is rumored that Luminance will be introduding a 300 watt version soon. John Atkinson of Stereophile bought his review sample.
Winners of many awards with their unique analogue-switching design. Lightweight physically, but not sonically. Lightning fast transients and speed. Best paired with tube preamps. Low profile, low power consumption. The Ref 9 V2 SE is the standout amp in this line.
Excellent parts quality, with very heavy duty power supplies. The sound is smooth, warm and powerful. Dollar for dollar the best value I have found in an amplifier. You are not paying for an establishment audio brand name, all of your dollar spent goes to performance, and performance is what you get.
