Open Baffle Loudspeakers
Clayton Shaw, owner of Spatial Audio, got his start in home audio loudspeakers with his first company, Emerald Physics. Their first loudspeaker was an open baffle design, which was highly unusual at the time. It used professional audio drivers, and an active crossover with a lot of EQ to get the proper sound. Clayton sold that company, took the knowledge he gained from that experience, and promptly started his new venture, Spatial Audio. Spatial audio loudspeakers continue with the open baffle design philosophy, and expand on it with proprietary drivers, passive crossovers, and in many designs, active open baffle subwoofers. These elegant, room friendly speakers are far less complicated in their implementation than the previous Emerald Physics. Clayton's design savvy and real-world experience in designing open baffle loudspeakers has led to speaker designs that overcome the previous limitations of the open baffle design (no bass, need for lots of EQ), while keeping the advantages of dipole speaker designs, and dynamic drivers.
We currently are using the X3 loudspeakers in our Studio, but represent the entire line of speakers that Spatial Audio Labs has to offer. If you are in the Denver Area, give us a call to audition the Spatial X3's in our Studio.
