Tweeked Out FP-S022N 14AWG Power Cable
Tweeked Out Furutech FP S022N Power Cord, Built By Tweek Geek
A Truly Remarkable Cable At This Price
We stumbled upon this combination from Furutech while looking for suitable cable and connectors for our Bybee SE AC Adapter. This cord is assembled using the following products:
FP-S022N 14 AWG wire
Alpha Nano-OFC is one of the best conductors Furutech engineers have found for sound reproduction. The new technology used in the highly specialized manufacturing process of this ultra-high performance power cable combines Furutech's world renowned Alpha conductors with Furutech's extremely effective signal transmission enhancer, Nano Liquid.
This cable is quiet, blanced, smooth, musical, and is capable of making your audio component sound wonderful. We love the articulate and controlled bass, the dynamics and the low level detail presenting itself naturally and without fatigue. It's sonic signature differs slightly from the FP S032N (12 awg) version of our cord in that this is a little smoother on transients, but very well balanced. The FP-S55N cord has a richer midrange, more body to vocals and is very complimentary to this cable when used on amplifiers, power distribution and conditioning. Essentially, use the FP-S022N based cable on source gear and preamps, and use the FP-S55N based power cord on high current electronics like amps and power conditioning. This provides an outstanding balance that is musical, airy, detailed and dynamic. You will have to pay a lot more to get better performance. If you are looking for value, you've found it.
Rhodium Plated Copper Carbon Fiber Wall Plug and IEC
We chose not to use the Furutech FI-50 connectors on this cord because we wanted to create something that sounded great, but wouldn't be outrageously expensive. After months of searching and experimenting with different connectors, we chose connectors with rhodium plated copper contacts, whose main bodies are milled out of a billet of copper, chrome plated then dressed with a carbon fiber sleeve. They are massive, provide excellent shielding from EMI and RFI and because they are copper, provide great resonance damping as well.
Our Tweaks to the FP-S022N Cord
First thing we do is strip off the jacket and shield. This leaves the thin inner jacket that covers the three 14 awg wires. That may sound counterintuitive but it actually makes the overall sonic presentation better, and improves the flexibility of the cord. Many power cords sound better unshielded, because the shield and extra jacketing store energy and distortion and dump it right back into the wire. Removing the shield and jacketing literally opens up the sound of the Furutech wire.
Next, we treat all of the contacts with Furutech's Nano Silver/Gold liquid before the cable is terminated. This is the same liquid that the individual wires are bathed in during the making of the cable. The nano particles of silver and gold are suspended in a squalene oil, when applied to the surface of wire they fill in the microscopic gaps, cracks, etc in the wire which lowers the noise floor. We coat the exposed ends of the wire with Nano liquid right before termination.
Sonic Tonic. Yes, we use the Sonic Tonic inside both connectors. The improvement is staggering, with a much lower noise floor, better bass, and more clarity top to bottom. Level 1 adds the equivalent of 1 full set of Sonic Tonic to each connector, level 2 doubles that with 2 full sets per connector. How do we do it? Instead of putting the Tonic in little bottles, we simply add it to a moldable epoxy and form it around the wires just before they go into their terminations. Being in such close proximity to the EM field enhances the performance of the Tonic, and the amount we are able to get so close to the naked connection really makes for an effective tweak.
Take the Performance a step further with a Furutech NCF AC Receptacle
We highly recommend plugging your Furutech NCF cords into NCF AC receptacles. Good grip on the cord, and excellent synergy.
